ΦΛΑΜΠΟΥΡΟ ΣΕΡΡΩΝ  Flampouro Serres in north Greece  (macedonia) 

  Introduction   

Flampouro is a small village of about 800 nowadays citizens. About 3000 flampourians live in Salonica, Athens and Peristeri. Flampourians are generally farmers  but also industrial workers, musicians or well educated scientists of modern professions. They are well known in the region for their hospitality, their special character and the joy they offer to every guest willing to visit them...

 History

The first time Flampouro is mentioned in written records was in the late of 19th century. But before of it,  Agion Oros hand written books mention that Georgoulas was inhabites musch more earlier. Three of earlier villages, Kara Orman, Georgoulas, Bairaktar united and they consisted the new Flampouro village. The population is characterized by historians as evenly greek  speaking and ortodox in contrary with the vast different, uneven neighbour populations of much suffering Macedonia region.

Religion  

Reliogion is a very important aspect of  every day life in Flampouro. If you visit flampouro you will see the old little church of Agia Anna that hosts the miraculous icon og Agia Anna. The master church of St. John Prodromos. In the boundaries of the village, where the old region of Georgoulas was situated, the picturesque  old chuch of St Constantine

raises through the fields.

Customs 

Flampouro is well known in the region for the customs of tzamala, the babouiros custom ,the idilia and the sport events (horse riding, jumping, running and oil wrestling) holding place every June in St. John Prodromos fair.
