Flampouro Serron - Φλάμπουρο Σερρών

 

Flampouro Serron is a small village of Serres region somewhere in north of Greece. Inhabited by Greek kind, hospitable,  faithful to God  and to St. Agia Anna . Loyal to traditional values. and honor since centuries.

 

tzamala

The tzamala custon is taking place every  8th ofSeptember, the day of St. Anna giving birth to the Mother of Jesus. It represents a camel (tzamala) dancing on the rythme of zourna and  drum.

The old camel is getting tired, it slows down to take a breath and finally she  gives a birth ...

Το έθιμο της Τζαμάλας διαδραματίζεται κάθε Σεπτέμβριο ανήμερα της γεννήσεως της Θεοτόκου από την Αγία Άννα.Η γρια τζαμάλα λικνίζεται δεξιά και αριστερά στους ρυθμούς του νταουλιού και του ζουρνά. Κουράζεται.. ξαποστένει... και στο τέλος γεννά !

St. John fair - Idilia

Every 24th of June, Flampouro celebrates it's holy st. John Baptist. A fair is taking place in which animals escorted with zourna are wandering from door to door asking the villagers to  offer money and goods for the church. The animal is given to the villager and he returns it after a while back to the church.

Babouiroi

Babouiros is the most representative custom of Flampouro serron. It takes place every carnival. One of a kind... Undescrible..! Only pictures can tell...!!

St. John fair - Wrestling

After the idilia custom, the wresting follows up. The zourna and the drum invades in the wrestling area (palestra) and the wrestling going to begin. The athlets are covering their bodies with oil and run towards to the opponent hitting their knees aggressively with their greasy hands.

The fight begins and the zourna is getting more and more ecstatic ! The winner takes the price ... a little cow !
